Supporting Procurement of Nutrition Products for Ethiopian Pharmaceuticals Supply Service (EPSS)
Context
To combat severe and moderate acute malnutrition in Ethiopia, the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) collaborates with the Ethiopian Pharmaceuticals Supply Service (EPSS) to procure and distribute essential nutrition commodities, including ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) and ready-to-use supplementary food (RUSF) for children under five. To enhance the distribution of these health commodities, EPSS sought external support to achieve key objectives, such as implementing efficient procurement and distribution systems, and ensuring adequate storage facilities to maintain an uninterrupted supply.
The Opportunity
Leveraging Connexi’s extensive supplier networks and distribution expertise, we have been successfully facilitating the procurement and delivery of RUTF and RUSF for EPSS, including to remote areas, over multiple years. Our expansion of services with EPSS has resulted in multiple contracts and reflects our growing presence in the region. By adhering to FMOH’s regulatory guidelines, Connexi upholds its commitment to ethical and compliant business practices. Our strong supplier relationships and deep understanding of the Ethiopian market have enabled us to navigate complex logistics challenges, ensuring the timely delivery of essential health commodities and enhancing healthcare accessibility in Ethiopia.
Results
Connexi delivered over 1 million units of RUTF during March 2022, over 733,000 units of RUTF during December 2022, and over 4 million units of RUTF during May 2023, significantly bolstering malnutrition treatment efforts in the hard-to-reach communities across Ethiopia. These contributions have played a vital role in improving the health outcomes of vulnerable populations, underscoring Connexi’s commitment to supporting critical health interventions in challenging environments.
